Some of the benefits of crying are as follows: detoxifies the body, improves mood, self-soothes, restores emotional balance, kills bacteria in the eye, and helps connect with others.  Many people associate crying with weakness when in essence crying allows us to get in touch with our emotions (the total opposite of “weak”).  Crying also activates the parasympathetic nervous system which aids in calming you down. (That’s probably why so many people are walking around with so much tension in their bodies... they need a hug and a good cry... neither here nor there).  Also, human tears contain the stress hormone ACTH.
