Should

The psychology of “should.”

Should Is a pressure word meaning that it demands or requires an action. “You should have your life together by the age of 25.”  “I should be rich by now.”  Should forces an expectation on you and your life, demanding a result regardless of the context or circumstances.

My relationship with should is that of the family member I acknowledge from a distance. Lol. I know it’s there yet I choose to not feed it or engage it.  People unknowingly utilize the power of should as a means to create rules and standards for their life; however, the breakdown comes when the “shoulds” rollover to the lives of others. “You should’ve greeted me in the first minute I walked into your restaurant, that’s the definition of professional.”
